The next location

Walk back to the main road from the Vecchie Fonti. Turn left and follow the main road until you reach the parking area on your left.

 

Here, the main road continues uphill. Instead, follow Via del Colombaino, the road running down alongside the main road on its left.

 

Follow this road for about 100 metres until you see a narrow staircase on your right, leading up between the houses. Climb the stairs and, at the top, turn right. After about 30 metres, you'll arrive at the charming little square of Piazzetta di Borgo.

Optional historical background

The Piazzetta di Borgo is one of the most atmospheric corners of Lajatico's historic centre.

 

As the village grew around its medieval castle during the 12th century, narrow streets and small squares like this became part of everyday life. They connected homes, workshops and storage buildings, creating a close-knit community within the old village.

 

Its stone houses and intimate layout have changed remarkably little over the centuries, making it one of the best places to experience the character of old Lajatico.

This is one of the cosiest little corners of Lajatico. Even when I'm in a hurry, I almost always stop here for a few minutes. There's always someone to greet, someone to chat with.

 

That's one of the wonderful things about living in a small village, you never really feel alone.

 

Earlier today, I bumped into my old neighbour and, before I knew it, we'd been chatting for quite a while. Perhaps one of the missing notes is still somewhere around this little square.
