The Teatro del Silenzio was inaugurated on 27 July 2006 in the hills just outside Lajatico, the hometown of Andrea Bocelli. The idea came from landscape artist Alberto Bartalini, who envisioned a theatre that would blend seamlessly with the surrounding Tuscan landscape. Andrea Bocelli embraced the project and helped turn the vision into reality.

Its name, "The Theatre of Silence" reflects this unique concept. When no performances are taking place, the temporary stage and grandstands are completely removed, allowing the hills, the lake and the silence to become part of the theatre once again.

A new work of contemporary art is created for Andrea Bocelli's annual concert and placed in the centre of the lake, making every edition unique. Since 2006, the Teatro del Silenzio has welcomed internationally renowned musicians, singers and performers from around the world.
