Stand in Piazzetta San Carlo facing the former Cappella di San Carlo. Take the road to the left of the building and continue uphill.

 

Keep walking past the square you visited earlier until you reach a small park on your left. You'll find a bust of Andrea Bocelli there.

This small park beside the Town Hall is home to a bronze bust of Andrea Bocelli, Lajatico's most famous resident.

 

The sculpture, titled "Cavaradossi," was created and donated to the village by the renowned Italian actress and sculptor Gina Lollobrigida. Rather than portraying Bocelli as himself, she chose to depict him as Mario Cavaradossi, the heroic painter from Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca.

 

Andrea Bocelli has performed the role of Cavaradossi on some of the world's most prestigious opera stages and recorded it as part of his operatic repertoire. The sculpture therefore celebrates not only the man himself, but also one of the most iconic roles of his career.

 

Born in Lajatico in 1958, Bocelli grew up just outside the village before becoming one of the world's most celebrated tenors. Despite his international success, he has always maintained a close connection with his hometown.

 

Today, the sculpture stands as a tribute to Bocelli's remarkable career and to the village that continues to inspire him.
